Brief infographic I created about HIV/AIDS in the world. I suggest you educate yourself more on the topic. This is intentionally not a comprehensive piece of information.

PS9/MS571 Library

As everyone knows (actually nobody knows because I never talk about it), I’m a huuuuugeee supporter of education and implementing design systems in order to better education and attempt to increase retention rates both mentally and in enrollment.

But I’m not talking about that in this post. This is about Brooklyn’s new library for Public School 9 and Middle School 571. Both of these schools had been seriously lacking in department for a while now in the sense that there was no library at all. Parents and staff of both schools organized a steering committee to be able to plan and organize what was needed to make the idea of a library come to fruition.

So it happened.

The library space (which was previously an unsightly dump to be honest) was renovated and redesigned. Luckily for these kids, they have awesome parents who were really committed to making this happen. PS 9 parents agreed to do pro-bono work for the interior design, branding and web design for the new library nicknamed the “Book Hive”. Architecture students from NYC College of Technology were tasked with identifying the elements needed to create a “dream library”.

Altogether $500,000 were raised to make this dream for the children come true. The library will currently remain closed due to the lack of funding for a librarian. So let’s all hope that these kids get their librarian soon so this beautiful community project will come to fruition.
